JKL Facts - Everything You Need To Know About T-Shirt Printing

At JKL Clothing printing t-shirts forms part of what we do and what we are about. We have been printing the humble t-shirt for over 15 years and in that time have seen an industry transformed by technological advances and garment choice.

The variety of print methods has increased to the point where it can be quite confusing to the customer as to which option to choose, which will look the best and achieve the optimum results. At JKL we guide our customers through each step of the process from selecting the right garment to choosing the most appropriate print option. Each printing decision is based on personal and unique situations and change from customer to customer. We want your printed t-shirt to be exactly what you are looking for at a price that fits your budget. We won’t try to sell you a t-shirt just because we have the stock or have an affinity with a particular brand. We choose your garment based on sound practical facts such as garment fabric, colour options and size availability to name but a few. We also do the same with your print method where again factors such as garment quantity, logo design and print position all play into the decision making process of which type of printing method to use.

T-shirt printing brands come and go and over the years we have seen many new brands with new styles and fabric choices. If your order is for a staff uniform that you will want to re-order again then we would recommend a brand that has a proven track record and has been around for a number of years. Brands such as Fruit of the Loom, Gildan and Kustom Kit and proven longevity within the t-shirt printing industry and we would be confident in stating that the printed t-shirt you order today will be available in six to twelve months time and beyond. If your order is for a one off sponsorship or event then brand sustainability may not be such a big deal and the most appropriate colour, size range or simply price might be the deciding factor.

The type of print is a different matter. JKL prides itself on the quality of our t-shirt printing and will only recommend a specific print technique based on fabric type, position and logo design. These three factors will determine the best print option for your t-shirt and provide the customer with the highest quality print outcome. The only other factor that we will add to the decision process is the quantity of prints required per logo. Cost effectiveness is something that we are well aware of, in the majority of cases the greater the quantity the greater the saving, so for example if we were to screen print your t-shirts the labour costs of separating the artwork (logo), setting up the screen or screens and getting the ink ready to print are basically the same whether you have 10 printed t-shirts or 1000. It would therefore make sense to recommend screen printing as a printing option for large quantity t-shirt orders.

Compare this to transfer printing as a printed t-shirt method. Transfer printing involves more or less the same amount of man hours per garment regardless of quantity. Finalising the artwork, printing the transfer and cutting out is based on single prints and takes the same amount of time for a single t-shirt as it does for 100. The benefit of transfer printing is the cost of the transfer is based on the size of the logo and not the number of colours contained within, as is the case for screen printing. It would therefore make sense to transfer print logos with a large number of colours going onto a small quantity of garments. Conversely, it therefore makes sense to use the screen print method when printing a logo with a small number of colours onto a large quantity of t-shirts.

Ultimately it is the customer’s decision which printing method to use but JKL will provide advice and costs for any number of options so that the customer has all the necessary information on which to base their print decision.

We are confident that whichever the t-shirt printing option you go for you won’t find a better printed product at a super completive price anywhere either on the high street or online. With well over 50 brands to choose from JKL stock one of the widest ranges of t-shirt available. Added to this the option to obtain your quote and order online 24hrs a day and we have your t-shirt printing requirements covered.

There are three ways to get your t-shirt printing order started:

Online, simply add the t-shirts you require to your basket and then proceed to check out. You will be prompted to add print to your order and taken through a step by step process to obtain your quote and place your order. Further information on how to do this is available on our website.

Through our contact page, simply fill out some basic details on our friendly contact page and we will get back to you with a full quote.

Phoning our office, pick up the phone and take the good old fashioned route to your perfect printed t-shirt order. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and have experienced staff available to answer your questions and take you through every step of the way.

JKL Facts - Everything You Need To Know About Embroidered Polo Shirts

Our most popular embroidered item of clothing is undoubtedly the embroidered polo shirt. At JKL Clothing we have been embroidering polo shirts for over 15 years and in that time have seen a steady progression both in terms of the quality of the embroidery we are able to produce and the quality and choice of the polo shirts we are able to offer.

As a part of your staff uniform, team strip or promotional top the humble polo shirt is a winner on many different fronts. Casual, yet smart, comfortable to wear, easy to wash and iron and above all great at providing that first impression to clients, colleagues and the general public alike.

JKL stock and supply over 30 brands of polo shirt so we are sure you will be able to find the ideal one for your needs. With such a large range, we can recommend polo shirts based on colour, style, sizing or budget and one of our staff is on hand Monday to Friday.

Our staff have many years experience and can select polo shirts specific to our customers requirements. Many of the brands we stock have been around for a number of years, such as Fruit of the Loom, Gildan and Kustom Kit. Others are new to the market and offer a fresh new look and style.

The standard position for placing an embroidered logo or text onto a polo shirt is the left or right chest area. Here the logo can be the right size to show off any detail in the logo and also be in the right position to be seen. That’s not to say we can’t embroider in other locations. Many of our customers have logos or text on the sleeve along with the nape of the neck, which is particularly well suited to embroidering a web address.

We use Barudan embroidery machines which are renowned within the embroidery industry as some of the best machines available. There are many aspects that go into producing a quality embroidered polo shirt. The size of the logo is paramount to successful embroidery. Too small and the lettering and fine detail will either not be seen or look wonky and poorly drawn. Too large and the weight of the thread will drag on the polo shirt and pull it out of shape. In embroidery size does matter especially if you are working to a budget as embroidery prices are based on the number of stitches within the logo. Once again here at JKL Clothing we have experienced staff that can advise and recommend in regards to your logo and how it will appear when placed onto a polo shirt.

So how do you order embroidered polo shirts from JKL Clothing?

Online - Get a quote and place your order online using our state of the art web ordering system. Add the polo shirts into your basket; proceed to checkout where you will then be prompted to select which polo shirts you wish to embroider. Follow the steps to upload your logo, select the position you want it placing on the polo shirt, and add any text you require, get a quote and then proceed to payment. The order will then be picked up by one of our staff who will contact you by your preferred means to confirm any details before we process your order for delivery.

Through our online contact form - Complete the contact form which can be found on our website, providing details of the polo shirt you require the quantity and then upload your logo for us to take a look at. One of our experienced members of staff will then email a full quote to you, which if you are happy with you can then contact our office to confirm your order.

By phone – The good old fashioned way of doing business, here at JKL we believe that sometimes you just need to speak to a real person in order to explain what you need from your embroidered polo shirt. So pick up the phone ask as many questions as you like and give us some basic information. We will then get back to you with a full quote which is valid for 30 days.

How To Order Embroidered Clothing

There are so many options out there on the World Wide Web that it can be a bit of a struggle to find good quality embroidered clothing for either work or personal wear.

At JKL we like to think that we stand out from the crowd, we have many years experience in the embroidery and print personalisation sector so it's safe to say we know a thing or two. So let's jump into a little bit of information about us and how to order embroidered clothing.

The Embroidery Process

An embroidery logo needs to be set up or digitised so that it can be read by our embroidery machines. OK, on this one we will hold our hands up and admit this is not done in house. Why? Because it is a skill that can make or break the quality of the finished embroidered product. We prefer to use our digitising expert partner to guarantee a first class embroidery finish.

Once we have set up your embroidered logo we can then provide a sample for you to approve. You can then make amendments to your logo before it is embroidered onto your garments.

How To Order Embroidered Clothing

There are 3 ways to receive an embroidered clothing quote:
  • From each individual product page, simply add the products you require to your basket and once in your basket select customise and follow the simple procedure to produce your individual quote. Full instructions are provided in the "How to order" section of our site.
  • You can apply for an embroidered clothing quote very easily on our website  and one of our sales team will respond with a full quote.
  • Pick up the phone (0114 239 8000) and speak to one of our sales team who will be happy to provide advice and a full quote.

JKL Facts - Clothing Terminology

At JKL Clothing we work with clothing everyday so are familiar with the terms used to describe the many different types of clothing styles, designs, fabrics etc. This terminology is often used in the product descriptions on our website and so, can be useful to understand when you are selecting the types and style of garment for your order.

We have therefore decided to write a few blogs on the subject of clothing terminology in the hope that it will clarify to our customers what the varying terms mean.

Yoke – This is a piece of clothing material that is sewn into a garment in order to support other looser material on the garment. In shirts, such as polo shirts it is sewn around the back of the neck and shoulder. In trousers and skirts it is sewn around the waist thus supporting the hanging fabric in the legs or the rest of the skirt.

Placket – This means “to lay on” and in clothing refers to allowing the garment to be put on and taken off more easily. In shirts for example the placket can be found on the front where the buttons are and also on the cuff at the end of the sleeve. They are almost always made of more than one layer of fabric.

The above image is a Fruit of the Loom polo shirt showing a front buttoned placket.
Taped Neckline – A taped neckline is a piece of fabric covering the stitching between the garment body and the collar. It strengthens the garment but also and more importantly makes the garment more comfortable to wear.

In our next blog we will look at different types of fabrics and what the descriptions actually mean. In the mean time why not do a spot of shopping and check out our casual leisurewear clothing and see if you can spot our terminology.

Established in America in 1851 Fruit of the Loom is truly a global company with outlets in over 20 countries encompassing 6 continents. Fruit of the loom is something of a branded clothing superpower within our industry.

So here are some Fruit of the Loom numbers;

  • 32,500 are the number of people employed worldwide by Fruit of the Loom
  • 97 is the number of current styles available
  • 51 is the number of colours that these styles are available in.
  • 1 manufacturing plant in Morocco
  • 21 dye jets, 64 spinning frames and 220 knitting machines are to be found in the Morocco plant
  • 2.2 million garments are manufactured here every week
  • 50 million garments are held in stock at any one time

These numbers give you some idea of the size of this made for garment decoration heavyweight.

Fruit of the Loom use only the finest US cotton in manufacturing all their clothing and they are currently the only brand to use the Belcoro yarn which is spun on autocard spinning machines providing a cleaner more stable print area with fewer loose fibres.

It may also interest you to know that Fruit currently support 3 main charities (Childline, Cancer Research and the Newlife foundation for disabled children) they are also certified to Oeko-Tex standard 100-08-5295 which certifies that their garments contain no substances harmful to people or the environment.

Fruit of the Loom are a real favourite for us here at JKL Clothing. Their consistency and quality of clothing means that our customers are guaranteed to receive garments of the highest standard. The ease with which their garments accept a variety of printing techniques and embroidery also make them stand out as a preferred choice within the personalised clothing industry.
