Regatta Outdoor Clothing at JKL Clothing

Regatta is one of the leading producers of outdoor clothing in United Kingdom. Their merchandise is famous for great quality and their clothing can be found in major stores around the world. They have a large range of waterproof trousers which are designed specially for men, but separate sets specially designed for women are also there. As with men’s water proof trousers, ladies trousers are also lightweight, durable and can keep the body temperature at optimum level irrespective of the outside temperature.

Many of their clothes are designed either for men or women. However, waterproof trousers from Regatta are often advertised for both. The Unisex trousers lack the usual baggy style seen in men’s trousers or that curvy style of women’s trousers. These trousers may not be the most stylish ones, yet they are most easy to purchase as you won’t have to worry about any particular design or size.

Regatta waterproof trousers have been specially designed as a pack away trouser which means that they can be neatly packed to fit in small area, which makes them perfect during camping, hunting and hiking trips. When the whether if fine, these trousers can be rolled up and packed in backpacks and as whether turns bad, you can immediately unpack them for use. Though the fabric of trousers is durable and strong, it is lightweight and will never weight you down when you add them to your luggage. Light pants also make it easy for you to run or walk during outdoors. Any sort of activity which requires energy exertion needs light weight clothing or they can tire their wearer.

Majority of such products come in free sizes, so they can be worn easily by anybody irrespective of their height or waist size. You will get all the usual colors in unisex pants but usually regatta sells blue, black and grey colors in their waterproof trousers.

Regatta also manufactures many other waterproof products like gloves, jackets, shoes and shorts. All these products are manufactured from high quality materials and are durable in harsh environments. A best way to buy Regatta items is in sets as you can get some good deals on them. For example, a complete waterproof set (consisting of shoes, jackets and trousers) will come cheap as compared to purchasing each of them separately. This is essential as waterproof pant is of no use unless you use good quality waterproof shoes for your feet.

Waterproof backpack is another good product made by Regatta. You can purchase these bags from same store or website as their trousers. With Regatta clothing you are assured of highest quality and durability when you go for Regatta brand. They will last much longer than other outdoor clothing options.

VAT ANOMALY IN THE EMBROIDERED CLOTHING INDUSTRY

There are many business’s both large and small that have fallen foul of unclear VAT rules.

Today a court case ruled that smoothie manufacturer, Innocent, must pay VAT on its products following a legal challenge by the business. This well known smoothie brand had argued that because its product is made entirely of fresh fruit, which along with many food products presently does not attract VAT, then neither should they. The court judgement decided that the due to process of turning the fruit into a drink, it did ADD VALUE to the product and should therefore be subject to VAT.

There are many other VAT anomalies, mainly within in the food industry over which arguments and court cases have taken place. One example was Jaffa Cakes. Since cakes do not attract VAT but biscuits do, McVities, the makers argued that the Jaffa Cake was indeed that, a cake and not a biscuit. An argument they duly won. Not so successful were Proctor and Gamble the makers of Pringle crisps. They had argued that as both chips and jacket potatoes were not subject to VAT even though they had been processed to a greater or lesser degree from the humble potato then neither should the crisp. This was not upheld and Proctor and Gamble lost their case and the Pringle crisp sold in almost every supermarket in the country is more expensive as a result.

So how is the embroidered clothing industry affected by VAT rules and regulations? One area that has been debated over recent years is whether, or not embroidered children’s clothing should be VAT exempt. All children’s clothing does not attract VAT but what happens when that item of clothing is decorated using embroidery. Does this add value to the product? Most would say it does, but it still remains an item of children’s clothing.

JKL Clothing have continued to adhere to the VAT rules and regulations as they see them by separating any invoice for embroidered children’s clothing, charging the clothing item at zero rate VAT and itemising a separate charge for the embroidery, making that item of the invoice subject to the normal VAT rate, currently 17.5%.

Jeff Harris, JKL Clothing MD, comments, “We feel that the law regarding VAT and embroidered children’s clothing remains unclear and until it is challenged and a definitive judgement made we will air on the side of caution and make all embroidery whether onto children’s clothing or not subject to the appropriate level of VAT”

How will the VAT rise affect the Workwear industry

We have all known for some time that the new coalition government will be raising the standard rate of VAT from the current 17.5% to 20% as of the 4th January 2011. This will bring the UK in line with other European countries (France 19.6% and Italy 20%).

How this will affect the workwear industry is something that has sparked serious debate amongst manufacturers and suppliers alike.
There are broadly three trains of thought on this matter and three plans of action aimed at adapting business to the forthcoming rate rise.

Many workwear business's aim to swallow the rate rise themselves and maintain current levels of profitability by increasing sales through a variety a marketing and sales campaigns.

Others believe that because the VAT rise will affect all business's nationally, this will therefore have little affect on sales and therefore they will maintain their market position and consequently retain the same or similar levels of profitability.

The third train of thought strikes a note of caution to all business owners, in that should companies not pass on the rate rise to customers by raising prices for fear of offending customers, by in some cases only a few pence, this will create an unsustainable business. The business may well survive for the first year but slowly this policy will mean that the rate rise will continue to chip away at profits and ultimately lead to an unprofitable and unsustainable business.

So which path will JKL Clothing tread. As always we are constantly monitoring the Workwear market place to ensure we remain competitive. We must however ensure that JKL Clothing as a company continue to survive and indeed grow. This may mean that we are forced to pass on the governments decision to raise the rate of VAT to our customers. We have however adopted a fourth strategy prior to having to do this. JKL Clothing have approached all its suppliers and attempted to negotiate a more competitive price from them. We have been able to do this due to the steady growth we have seen during the past 18 months. This has lead to increased spend with our suppliers and therefore a strengthened bargaining position when we come discuss the price we pay for our workwear garments from them.

JKL Clothing will certainly be doing all it can to ensure they are around for many years to come.

How will the Government spending review affect the Workwear and Corporate Clothing market?

This week saw the long awaited announcement of the coalition government spending review. Whilst the detail of George Osbourne's speech have yet to be disected it is clear that the full extent of the cuts to public sector spending will not be felt in full for some time with many experts predicting that as a country we will still be feeling the effects of this weeks review budget in several years time.
The two departments guaranteed to be spared from a cull that covered every area of public sector spending were education and the NHS. These two departments produce between them significant spending within both the workwear and corporate clothing markets. This will be some comfort to many companies within our industry. JKL Clothing, for example, have calculated that approximately 15% of annual turnover can be attributed to education, both school and higher education and the NHS. Whilst not a huge percentage it is certainly a significant amount. I am sure that many companies will now be looking at both these sectors with a view to targeting them far more aggressively when marketing budgets are set and new business goals are specified. JKL Clothing have been active in both these areas for some time, most notably supplying workwear to the NHS in the form of medical coats and smocks and also doing significant business to many UK universities providing a variety of promotional merchandise.
Many companies within our sector are heavily reliant on public sector spending with businesses built up on providing workwear and corporate clothing to council and local authorities. As these organisations look to cut costs and save money, one area that will surely attract in depth scrutiny will be workforce clothing and uniform. Exactly how that will affect JKL Clothing and companies operating within our market remains to be seen. Two perspectives will remain and that is product and service, JKL Clothing believe that by concentrating on getting these two areas right, it will provide the firm basis from which to survive what many people think will be tough spending cuts leading to difficult trading conditions for many small and medium size businesses. Time will surely tell, but one thing almost certain, we are in for interesting times ahead.

Workwear Price Increase

The workwear clothing industry is bracing itself for a series of price increases over the coming months.

Having recently increased prices during the summer 6 monthly revue, many workwear clothing manufacturers are preparing to again increase the prices of their garments over the coming month. The industry is used to a half yearly price increase in July, but not in recent memory can we at JKL Clothing recall an autumn price change.

The cost of the end product has recently been affected by a number of factors, not least of all the price of cotton which recently reached a fifteen year high in September of this year. The cost of cotton has been greatly affected by the floods in Pakistan, which is the worlds 4th largest cotton producer. There have also been major crop problems in both Greece and Brazil, other big producers have millions of bales to sell that have yet to reach the market. The USA which is the worlds largest exporter has had logistical problems getting the product out of the warehouses to meet early sales commitments to Asia.

This cotton price rise has finally had an effect on the end product and the price charged to the consumer. Many of the best known brands have already given notice of a price increase. Most notably Gildan and Fruit of the Loom who have indicated an increase of 5%.

Whilst workwear has withstood the recent economic downturn we will wait to see the effect of this latest jolt to the industry. Whatever the future holds JKL Clothing have already given notice of their intent to resist significant price increase, a move that will hopefully go down well with all their customers.

JKL Clothing see no dip in workwear sales during recession

JKL Clothing the specialist online workwear company report that sales in workwear clothing continue to bring strong revenue to the company despite the current economic climate and the threat of future difficult trading conditions.
During the first quarter of 2009 many economic analysts predicted that the clothing market would enter a difficult trading period leading to many companies been forced to downsize or even close altogether.
JKL Clothing invested heavily during this period in both organisational structure and online marketing and search engine optimisation. This investment began to pay dividends during the final months of 2009 when increased website visitor numbers lead to more sales and a sharp increase in revenue and profits. Through increased profitability a situation developed whereby further investment in the company became a possibility.
Workwear was one area of the business that benefited from increased investment. JKL Clothing grew its workwear range and added market leading brands including Portwest and Dickies to an ever growing collection of garments.
Whilst a decrease in workwear clothing sales became a stark reality for many online companies JKL Clothing has bucked the trend by its proactive approach and aggressive marketing campaign. Jeff Harris the company MD comments "we looked at the overall workwear market picture in early 2009 and decided that this particular sector was well placed to withstand the economic conditions and that is why we choose to invest in this area of the business, paying almost instant dividends"
JKL Clothing hope to grow the workwear ranges on offer through their online presence and are confident that this particular market will continue to buck the trend and deliver strong profitability for the company.

JKL Clothing to supply local council with workwear

JKL Clothing have recently extended its contract with Dumfries and Galloway council to continue with the supply of workwear clothing.
The relationship with Dumfries and Galloway goes back to 2004 when JKL Clothing won the workwear supply contract. Since then we have worked closely with the council officers and helped develop an entire workwear clothing range suitable to the councils needs.
JKL Clothing have also been able to help Dumfries and Galloway council to source a wide range of workwear goods and accessories and have played their part during the recent successful development of the DG One leisure complex.
JKL Clothing have provided Dumfries and Galloway with an unrivalled choice of workwear products and garments. Their vast range of quality workwear brands such as Portwest and Dickies have meant that whatever the council's workwear clothing requirements we have always been able to draw on one of the most extensive and competitively priced range of garments available in the UK.
In an ever changing market place JKL Clothing have continued to keep pace with the workwear choices available and through selectively sourcing only the most suitable and quality garments we have always been able to meet our customers requirements.

JKL Clothing expands workwear range

JKL Clothing this week added yet more of the Portwest range to their ever increasing collection of durable workwear garments.

Here at JKL Clothing we have known for many years of the quality and durabilty of Portwest workwear clothing. Recently the Rotherham company has added to their range and JKL Clothing have wasted no time in adding these products to their own collection of high quality workwear garments.

Some of the most noticeable additions include many new lines in the hi vis workwear area. One of our most popular items is the Portwest R463 hi vis bomber jacket with reflexite red braces. This particular jacket has sold well into the power station market and at under £34.00 provides high quality at an exceptionally competetive price. With an attachable hood and fleece lined collar this garment keeps the wearer warm in the most inclement of weather. Added to this the use of red reflexite for extra safety and visibilty and here at JKL Clothing we don't think you will find a warmer or safer workwear outer garment.

JKL Clothing are in constant contact with our partners at Portwest and we continue to monitor the workwear market to bring only the best quality garments and products to our customers. So look out for further additions to JKL Clothing range of workwear garments.

The Power of Workwear Uniform

The human psyche is often described as a strange thing and a recent investigation into the psychological effects of workwear uniforms has looked at their power and effect on our day to day lives and how we feel.

Anyone who has pulled on a new team kit or buttoned up the jacket of a new school uniform will tell you that looking good makes you feel good. That's not just a saying it is a well known psychological fact that we are what we wear.

Wearing a workwear uniform can encourage a real sense of identity and belonging to a team. Many business owners have realised long ago that employee moral can be greatly affected by the workwear clothing they wear and how that makes them feel.

If we add to this the free advertising benefits of an embroidered item of workwear uniform, it soon becomes apparent that investment in staff clothing can really pay dividends on so many different levels.

JKL Clothing have long held the view that staff workwear clothing provides real long term benefits to both employer and employee alike. This is why they are constantly sourcing the best workwear brands on which they can embroider or print for added value ensuring both the company bosses and staff get the best possible deal.

Industrial workwear

If one area of the embroidered clothing decoration market has withstood the recent economic downturn, it is the industrial workwear sector. The industrial workwear sector has really held up well over recent months, surprising many within the workwear industry.
When looked at closely though it is not that surprising. Every worker in the UK needs workwear as a fact of working life. There are many reasons for this, not least of all the legal requirements that company's are forced to adhere to under the current health and safety regulations. This is not the only reason companies look upon workwear as a necessary cost. Many companies want their staff to feel valued and recognised as well as safe and having a workwear uniform that is embroidered with a company logo is a cost effective way of achieving this.
Industrial workwear covers the range of workwear garments that are worn in the most demanding work environments. As well as the positive effects embroidered workwear has on staff it also provides essential protection. One of the main advantages to decorated workwear is that it turns staff into walking advertisement boards for the company they are representing.
Workwear garment brands are well aware of how the sector is fast moving in terms of design and development and as such are constantly updating workwear product ranges to keep up with the latest fabric and design developments.
JKL Clothing are proud to stock one of the largest ranges of industrial workwear available in the UK, with all the major brands carried we are sure that the vast majority of companies will find the ideal industrial workwear garments to be used as a marketing tool once embroidered with company logo and as a valuable means of protecting their workforce and thus fulfilling their responsibilities in relation to the health and safety of its workforce.

RTY Workwear leads the way

RTY Workwear is proving so popular that JKL Clothing are planning to increase their stock levels to maintain the quick delivery times that customers have come to expect.
During the last year, workwear garment manufacturer RTY has been JKL Clothing second best selling workwear range. This is down to two main reasons. Firstly wearers of RTY Workwear are often pleasantly surprised by the quality of the clothing. Here at JKL Clothing we hear from many of our customers who report that their RTY garments are performing really well and delivering all the aspects they are looking for in workwear, namely comfort and robustness. The second reason for RTY's increased demand is price. Many of our customers are surprised that such reasonably priced workwear garments can deliver the quality that they are finding in RTY products.
The RTY workwear range is divided into 3 separate areas. Firstly there is the RTY High Visibility range. This range of workwear consists of all the Hi Vis products that RTY supply, including Hi Vis clothing such as T-shirt, Polo Shirts and Jackets along with other items such as backpacks and messenger bags. To compliment this range RTY have another safety range of garments, the RTY Enhanced Vis group of products, this includes enhanced visibility t-shirts, polo shirts and fleeces. Finally RTY have there own complete workwear collection of garments, ranging from trousers, jackets and polo shirts through to coveralls, overalls and vests. As you can see, whatever your workwear requirements RTY has the garments to meet your needs and with the prices and value at JKL Clothing were confident that we will soon have to replenish our RTY stock again.

Fruit of the Loom - Apparel industries oldest company

There can't be many company's trading today that can trace their beginnings back as far as 1851, but that is exactly what the branded clothing product company Fruit of the Loom can do.
Fruit of the Loom started in Rhode Island, America when Robert Knight, a textile mill owner and a friend, Rufus Skeel who owned a small shop selling cloth got together and formed one of the first branded clothing companies in America. Rufus Skeel's daughter had painted pictures of apples and applied them to cloth. It was this image that Rudus Steel decided to use for his labels and this apple can still be seen today on the Fruit of the Loom logo. In 1871 Robert Knight applied for and obtained a patent. He was issued the patent number 418 for the brand Fruit of the Loom.
Since the late 1800's, Fruit of the Loom has lead a varied and at times unstable life. This culminated as recently as 1999 when Fruit of the Loom filed for protected bankruptcy, following losses of $576.2 million.
The company was bought from bankruptcy by Berkshire Hathaway Corporation in January 2002. A more recent problem for Fruit of the Loom was the boycott by over 100 universities in 2009 when it emerged that Fruit of the Loom were allegedly violating workers rights in Honduras, where it is the countries largest employer. This lead to significant losses in profit.
Fruit of the Loom is probably best known for its printable garments, particularly it's t-shirts. JKL Clothing has been using the Fruit of the Loom Valueweight t-shirts in almost all of its t-shirt printing production runs for some time. Vicky Clow (JKL Clothing's, artwork and production manager) comments "the Fruit of the Loom Valueweight t-shirt ticks all the boxes our customers require, it is a good quality garment at a reasonable price and from a printers point of view provides a great surface on which to screen print"
To view the Fruit of the Loom t-shirt range and see what JKL Clothing can produce from their t-shirt printing facility, visit the JKL Clothing website at www.jklclothing.co.uk

Free Screen set up charge when ordering printed garments

JKL Clothing continue to offer free set up charges for all printing when your order for printed garments exceeds 100. We are the only printed garments company within our sector that offers free screen set ups on as low a quantity as 100.

So why do many companies charge for the setting up of screens for printing.? Put simply there is work involved, so therefore a charge is payable. In order to create a screen from which you are able to print you firstly have to separate the colours of the design and create individual screens for each colour in the design. This process obviously takes time. JKL Clothing do however realise how prohibitive a one off screen set up charge can be, which is why we have waived it for orders of 100 or more. Our philosophy is simple, once we have produced a customers screen, that screen is then saved for a period of 12 months so that should you re order within that period and require the same artwork design, no set up charge is payable on any quantity ordered, providing the minimum order quantity of 20 is reached. It is hoped that once you have seen the quality of our printing and experienced our superior customer service you will return time and time again.

JKL Clothing also appreciate the current economic climate and the difficulties faced by both business's and individuals alike. It is for this reason that we will do all we can to ensure we continue to provide value and service to all our customers, big and small.

So next time you are looking for a quality t-shirt printing company remember that JKL Clothing are committed to making printed garments as cost effective as possible.

Embroidered Clothing prices held for 2nd year running

JKL Clothing are pleased to announce that embroidery prices are to remain static for the second year in a row.

Embroidered clothing is one of JKL Clothing's main areas of expertise alongside screen printing and workwear supply. During the recent economic downturn we have worked alongside our suppliers and customers alike to ensure we continue to provide the best possible deal without compromising our commitment to superior customer service. We constantly monitor the competition and are confident we continue to out perform our contemporaries in terms of product quality and value for money.

One of the reasons that we are able to maintain our low embroidery prices is that we invested in market leading Barudan embroidery machines that provide us with excellent efficiency and minimum downtime, resulting in improved performance from our embroidery department.

Jeff Harris, JKL Clothing's MD recently said "we are all too well aware of the economic difficulties faced by our customers, by refraining from increasing our embroidery prices for a second year we are doing all we can to maintain our position as market leaders and help our loyal customers during what can only be described as difficult market conditions"

What are the variables that make up the quality of a screen printed t-shirt?

There are many important factors that go to make up how well a screen printed t-shirt will turn out once the finished garment leaves the production line.

In this article I am going to look at just a few of these variables and will be looking to complete the guide in articles that I publish over the next few weeks.

So, if you want to improve the quality of your t-shirt printing then follow this guide over the coming weeks and hopefully you will be able to pick up a few hints and tips that will create a garment screen printing process that leads to a printed t-shirt you can be proud of.

Screen tension – Screens need to be of the same tension as each other. This way you will get consistency across the whole print run. If you use one screen that has a very low tension it may lead to the ink been laid down unevenly and not providing good coverage. Your screens should therefore have sufficient tension and importantly, have the same tension as the other screens been used on that run.

Squeegee pressure and squeegee stroke time - The pressure on the squeegee should be constant throughout the stroke. This again will lead to an even coverage of ink onto the t-shirt. If the pressure is not consistent throughout the print run you will not get the same amount of ink applied to each t-shirt, this will lead to inconsistencies throughout the run. As with squeegee pressure, the time of the stroke must also be consistent in order to produce a consistent finished printed t-shirt.

Squeegee maintenance – Make sure that the squeegee blade is level and replaced when it loses its sharp edge. By ensuring your squeegee blade is fit for the job, you are again taking away a variable that can lead to a disappointing printing result.

These are my first 3 tips for increased success in t-shirt printing. If you are reading this article and thinking this is something that may be best left to a professional t-shirt printing company then why not visit JKL Clothing’s website and allow us to show you how we can take your image or design and screen print it onto a garment of your choice.
